At the age of 13, Gaikwad joined the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Warok Dilip Vengsarkar Academy at Thergaon in Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune.
Ruturaj Gaikwad led the team to victory in the 2010 Cadence Trophy for the Veroch Vengsarkar Academy against MIG Cricket Club in Mumbai and won the man of the match award.
Rituraj Gaikwad scored his best 306 runs in a match in a 522-run partnership with teammate Vinay Kumar in the 2015 Maharashtra Invitational tournament.

Made his first-class debut for Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy on 6 October 2016.

Gaikwad International Career
In June 2021, Gaikwad was named in India’s One Day International (ODI) and Twenty 20 International (T20I) squads for their series against Sri Lanka.
Made his T20I debut on 28 July 2021 for India against Sri Lanka. In December 2021, Gaikwad was named in India’s ODI squad for the series against South Africa.
In January 2022, Gaikwad was again named in India’s ODI squad.

In December 2018, Gaikwad was bought by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League.

He won the Orange Cap for scoring the most runs (635) in the 2021 tournament and was also awarded the Emerging Player of the Year award.
