Rockies' Márquez gets $20M extension.

The Colorado Rockies have agreed to a two-year, $20 million contract extension with right-handed pitcher Germán Márquez, according to multiple reports.

Márquez is eligible for arbitration for the first time this winter. The extension includes a club option for a third year.

Márquez is coming off a season in which he went 11-10 with a 4.63 ERA in 32 starts.

He was the Rockies' Opening Day starter in 2022 and finished the season with 170 strikeouts.

The extension is a significant investment by the Rockies in Márquez, who is 27 years old and has the potential to be a top-of-the-rotation pitcher.

The deal also gives the Rockies some financial flexibility, as Márquez was projected to earn arbitration salaries of $6.4 million and $8.2 million in 2023 and 2024.

The extension is a win-win for both the Rockies and Márquez. The Rockies get to keep a key member of their rotation under control for the next two seasons, and Márquez gets a nice payday.
