Women’s IPL Auction 2023
The auction for the first Women’s Premier League took place on Monday. 5 teams bid to pick their favorite players from 448 women cricketers.
Smriti Mandhana, the 26- year- old Indian batsman, was the biggest cash- winner and was bought by RCB for Rs 3.40 crore.
Australia’s Ashley Gardner was bought by Gujarat Giants for Rs 3.20 crore and England’s Natalie Scivers was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 3.20 crore. During the first IPL in 2008,
Chennai Super Kings bought Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the costliest player for Rs 9.5 crore. Four- nation captains remained unsold in the Women’s Premier League. These included Sune Luce of South Africa, Heather Knight of England, Chamari Atapattu of Sri Lanka and Hayley Mathews of the West Indies.
In the auction, 7 players in the top 10 are Indians while 3 are foreigners. Among them Harmanpreet Kaur at 33 years of India is the oldest and Shefali Verma at 19 years is the youngest. UP bought Devika Vaidya of Maharashtra for Rs 1.4 crore. Mumbai bought Amanjot Kaur for 50 lakhs. Australian all- rounder Grace Harris joined the UP squad for 75 lakhs.
The tournament will start from March 4, there will be 22 matches between 5 teams.
